Fire Alarms

A fire alarm system has a number of devices working together to detect and warn people through visual and audio appliances when smoke, fire, carbon monoxide or other emergencies are present. These alarms may be activated automatically from smoke detectors, and heat detectors or may also be activated via manual fire alarm activation devices such as manual call points or pull stations. Alarms can be either motorized bells or wall mountable sounders or horns. They can also be speaker strobes which sound an alarm, followed by a voice evacuation message which warns people inside the building not to use the elevators.

Fire alarm sounders can be set to certain frequencies and different tones including low, medium and high, depending on the country and manufacturer of the device. Most fire alarm systems in Europe sound like a siren with alternating frequencies. Fire alarm warning devices can also be set to different volume levels. Fire Alarm systems in the United Kingdom are tested at a weekly basis in compliance with the BS-fire 2013 regulations.

Intruder Alarms

Nurse Call Systems

Raven Fire & Security have successfully installed hundreds of Nurse Call Systems from the small individual Care Home to large Nursing Care organisations, specialising within the care industry and recognising the importance for maintenance and after care.  Residents or patients are easily able to call for assistance.  These systems also act as staff to staff callers should carers need to get help quickly, either just to assist or for an emergency.

We will provide you with a total package system either wired – mainly for new build or renovated properties or complete wireless options usually used to replace an existing failed or dated system to avoid the disruption caused with new wiring, you can rest assured that your system will be designed to meet the needs of your home or care facility.

Monitored Systems

All alarm systems can be broken down into two basic types, audible only and monitored. A monitored business alarm system guarantees a response to any activation and can be dealt with according to the procedures you put in place. Audible only alarms rely on good Samaritans taking action when they hear an alarm going off. Our monitoring services don’t stop at intruder alarms, we can also integrate your home CCTV system and smoke detectors into your intruder alarm, so that all three can be monitored for ultimate reassurance. This means that if your fire alarm system detects smoke and you are not at home, the monitoring centre can alert the Fire Brigade who will go to your home, whether you’re at the supermarket or on holiday.

Additionally, some people may prefer a monitored CCTV system so that they don’t have to keep an eye on it themselves and they can rest assured knowing that somebody with instant police access is watching over their home. Emergency Lighting

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order (RRFSO) 2005, which came into force in October 2006, charges the responsible person in control of non-domestic premises and the common areas of a House in Multiple Occupancy (HMO) with the safety of everyone in the building, whether working, visiting or living there.  This duty of care includes the provision of emergency lighting.  Article 14 (2) (h) of the RRFSO states: “Emergency routes and exits requiring illumination must be provided with emergency lighting of adequate intensity in the case of failure of their normal lighting”.  Emergency lighting is part of the fire safety provision of a building and cannot be ignored.

“The legal requirement is that non-domestic buildings must be safe at all times, even if mains power failure occurs. Therefore, nearly all such buildings must have emergency lighting fitted”.   The British Standard provides the emergency lighting designer with clear guidelines to work to. BS 5266-1: 2011 embraces residential hotels, clubs, hospitals, nursing homes, schools and colleges, licensed premises, offices, museums, shops, and multi-storey dwellings.

Where Is Emergency Lighting Important?

In detail, offices and shops should have an emergency escape lighting system which should normally cover the following:

• Each exit door
• Escape routes
• Intersection of corridors
• Outside each final exit and on external escape routes
• Emergency escape signs
• Stairways so that each flight receives adequate light
• Changes in floor level
• Windowless rooms and toilet accommodation exceeding 8m²
• Fire-fighting equipment
• Fire alarm call points
• Equipment that would need to be shut down in an emergency
• Lifts
• Areas in premises greater than 60m²
