Intruder Alarms

When it comes to protecting your property from the potentially devastating impact of crime or fire, you can’t afford to take any chances. The correct choice of fire or security protection system and service provider is vital, we are an SSAIB accredited company, so you can rest assured you are in safe hands.

Insurance Approval – For most installations requiring a security or fire system for insurance purposes, the Insurer will insist that you use a Third Party Certificated provider such as an SSAIB approved company.

Having a fire or security systems provider that you can trust will ensure peace of mind for you and demonstrate to your insurer that you have acted responsibly to protect your business. Home Office research suggests that if a property is protected by a commercial intruder alarms system, 84% of potential intruders will be deterred from entering and will leave soon after hearing an audible alarm. This signifies the importance of installing an intruder alarm system.

Our specialist designers will recommend the most appropriate means of detection to ensure the system is both effective in detecting intruders and eliminating the potential of false alarms. Raven Fire & Security are experts in designing, installing and maintaining intruder alarms utilising the latest technology provided by leading manufacturers. All the intruder alarm systems we supply can be integrated to incorporate other security systems such as CCTV systems and access control. These combine to provide extra layers of security for your property.

Fire Alarms

A fire alarm system has a number of devices working together to detect and warn people through visual and audio appliances when smoke, fire, carbon monoxide or other emergencies are present. These alarms may be activated automatically from smoke detectors, and heat detectors or may also be activated via manual fire alarm activation devices such as manual call points or pull stations. Alarms can be either motorized bells or wall mountable sounders or horns. They can also be speaker strobes which sound an alarm, followed by a voice evacuation message which warns people inside the building not to use the elevators.

Fire alarm sounders can be set to certain frequencies and different tones including low, medium and high, depending on the country and manufacturer of the device. Most fire alarm systems in Europe sound like a siren with alternating frequencies. Fire alarm warning devices can also be set to different volume levels. Fire Alarm systems in the United Kingdom are tested at a weekly basis in compliance with the BS-fire 2013 regulations.

Emergency Lighting

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order (RRFSO) 2005, which came into force in October 2006, charges the responsible person in control of non-domestic premises and the common areas of a House in Multiple Occupancy (HMO) with the safety of everyone in the building, whether working, visiting or living there.  This duty of care includes the provision of emergency lighting.  Article 14 (2) (h) of the RRFSO states: “Emergency routes and exits requiring illumination must be provided with emergency lighting of adequate intensity in the case of failure of their normal lighting”.  Emergency lighting is part of the fire safety provision of a building and cannot be ignored.

“The legal requirement is that non-domestic buildings must be safe at all times, even if mains power failure occurs. Therefore, nearly all such buildings must have emergency lighting fitted”.   The British Standard provides the emergency lighting designer with clear guidelines to work to. BS 5266-1: 2011 embraces residential hotels, clubs, hospitals, nursing homes, schools and colleges, licensed premises, offices, museums, shops, and multi-storey dwellings.

Where Is Emergency Lighting Important?

In detail, offices and shops should have an emergency escape lighting system which should normally cover the following:

• Each exit door
• Escape routes
• Intersection of corridors
• Outside each final exit and on external escape routes
• Emergency escape signs
• Stairways so that each flight receives adequate light
• Changes in floor level
• Windowless rooms and toilet accommodation exceeding 8m²
• Fire-fighting equipment
• Fire alarm call points
• Equipment that would need to be shut down in an emergency
• Lifts
• Areas in premises greater than 60m²

Monitored Systems

All alarm systems can be broken down into two basic types, audible only and monitored. A monitored business alarm system guarantees a response to any activation and can be dealt with according to the procedures you put in place. Audible only alarms rely on good Samaritans taking action when they hear an alarm going off. There are different levels of security monitoring from very basic all the way up to directly contacting the Police. Read our post on Alarm Monitoring Options Explained for more information on this. Our highly experienced surveyors will be able to recommend the best monitoring options for your needs and budget.

Our monitoring services don’t stop at intruder alarms, we can also integrate your home CCTV system and smoke detectors into your intruder alarm, so that all three can be monitored for ultimate reassurance. This means that if your fire alarm system detects smoke and you are not at home, the monitoring centre can alert the Fire Brigade who will go to your home, whether you’re at the supermarket or on holiday.

Additionally, some people may prefer a monitored CCTV system so that they don’t have to keep an eye on it themselves and they can rest assured knowing that somebody with instant police access is watching over their home. Our burglar alarm, CCTV and fire alarm monitoring is all provided by our NSI Gold approved monitoring centre, offering the highest quality and most reliable service to keep your home and family safe at all times.

Fire Extinguishers

If a fire started now, do you have the correct fire extinguisher to put it out safely? Do you have a schedule for fire extinguisher servicing? If you tried to escape the building, are you sure that your extinguishers are positioned on the route to safety? The potential for a small fire to grow and cause significant damage should not be underestimated. Are you 100% confident you have the right fire safety measures in place?

Selecting and siting the appropriate type of fire extinguishers to protect your premises is vitally important. No different from ensuring you have appropriate insurance cover – in fact, not having the correct fire-fighting equipment in place is just like driving without insurance, both ethically and legally.

For more than 25 years we have attended many premises to refill or replace used fire extinguishers, time and time again fire extinguishers have proven invaluable in preventing a small fire taking hold. By choosing Raven Fire & Security to take care of this important role you will have the peace of mind that you have selected a company that only employs BAFE qualified technicians to undertake the installation and service work.

Access Control

Access control is now an increasingly common sight in many workplaces. Have you had to ‘fob’ into work this morning in order to gain access? As a manager, would it help you to know where certain workers had been and for how long? Do you wish to prevent access to business critical areas such as data centres or server rooms?

Access control systems are installed to suit your security requirements. Options include, access control with intercom, access control with cameras, access control gates, access control keypads and access control barriers. From the control of a single internal door to a fully computerised multi door system, Raven Fire and Security offers a smart and efficient way of allowing multiple users access to only the areas you wish.

We are experienced access control installers and can offer the latest technological advances such as biometrics where high-level security is required, or specific personnel identification is critical.  In these systems it is a particular aspect of human physiology that is stored e.g. finger print, which is then compared against the person whenever access is required.

Nurse Call Systems

Raven Fire & Security have successfully installed hundreds of Nurse Call Systems from the small individual Care Home to large Nursing Care organisations, specialising within the care industry and recognising the importance for maintenance and after care.  Residents or patients are easily able to call for assistance.  These systems also act as staff to staff callers should carers need to get help quickly, either just to assist or for an emergency.

We will provide you with a total package system either wired – mainly for new build or renovated properties or complete wireless options usually used to replace an existing failed or dated system to avoid the disruption caused with new wiring, you can rest assured that your system will be designed to meet the needs of your home or care facility.
